The Gender Curriculum

The Gender Curriculum of the Hjalli Model aims to free children from negative effects of the gender system and bring about equality. We realise that children often receive limited opportunities and training because of gendered ideas and gender socialisation. In the Hjalli Model, each school year consists of six terms, lasting for four weeks each, which are based on training and improving both the individual and social skills of each child. Three of the six terms serve the purpose of exercising and strengthening social skills and behaviour often connected to masculinity, whereas the other three terms train social skills and behaviour often connected to femininity. By following the gender curriculum throughout the six terms, each child receives balanced and equal social and individual training, regardless of their gender.
